Planning Ahead of Time (PAT)
Caring for my Mum, Pat, who had Lewy Body Dementia, changed my view of dying. Without her being able to tell us what she wanted, we had to guess. So I trained and became an accredited End of Life Facilitator.
Planning Ahead of Time (PAT) was born out of the desire to help others plan for their end of life. To facilitate you considering what your end of life will look like, creating plans to support your wishes and then letting the right people know about them.
In life, we help and support the people closest to us. We can also do this in death, by making sure plans are in place and the information is easily available and accessible.
Are you a planner?
You plan for birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. You plan pregnancies, holidays and retirement. In life you are constantly planning ahead of time.
So what about death?
Death is the reality of life. You simply can’t have one without the other. Yet the majority of people don’t plan for death until they are given a life limiting or terminal diagnosis. Then they plan… why?… because they want to take control of their end of life and make it easier for their loved ones.
Planning ahead of time allows you to:
- Consider what you would want
- where it will be
- who will be involved
- how you/they will make it happen.
Planning makes life easier and it is the same for the end stages of life, dying and post death. It is especially important to have made plans if you become unable to communicate your wishes yourself.
Work with Dayle to create your plans, document what you want and have the information available that your loved ones need when the time comes.
Why I set up Planning Ahead of Time
In April 2021 a long term friend died by suicide and the impact ricocheted through my community of friends. I found myself wondering what people could do when they are healthy and happy to help their loved ones to cope when they die, and the answer was planning.
In life, when we know something is coming, we plan for it… a birth, wedding, operation, exam, driving test, retirement etc. We plan to feel in control and ensure our wants are fulfilled through being organised. However, we all know that one day we will die, but we don’t like to think about it.
In late 2021 my Mum was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and quickly lost capacity to make choices for herself. We did not have a Lasting Power of Attorney in place , had no idea how she wanted to be cared for, didn’t know all of the family financials, or what type of funeral she would have wanted, and after her death found we had the wrong will.
Planning Ahead of Time (PAT) has allowed me to blend my passion for business, with my desire to help others, giving me the purpose of creating light from the darkness, and honour my Mum, Pat. Planning brings my clients peace of mind and ensures they can make choices in their life up until its end and beyond. Their planning is a gift to their loved ones.
PAT’s sole purpose is to make death easier for the living and more peaceful for the dying through conversations with clients enabling them to consider their life, their death and what choices they want to make.
To educate people on the options available to them, I record PAT Chats with end of life industry professionals. We discuss topics relating to dying, death, loss and grief, covering what is available to you and their services.

For major life events, we spend time planning to ensure we find out the options available, consider our wishes, be financially prepared and find the help we will need for it to run smoothly, as being prepared reduces stress.
This PAT session discusses any aspect of end stages of life, dying, death and post-death, to facilitate the plans that need to be in place, just as with any major life event.
Planning ahead of time will bring you peace of mind and support your family when they need it the most.

Planning Ahead of Time is so important, covering many aspects of our lives to ensure they are catered for during the end stages of our life, dying, death and post-death.
To discuss singular topics, you may only require 1 session.
To work through the array of topics relating to personal care, health and finance, digital footprints, funerals and property for example, more sessions will be required and therefore a course of 5 is more cost effective.
